BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh freshman forward Kelly Fox was named the Patriot League’s Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday. Fox scored her first two collegiate goals last week as the Mountain Hawks opened up their home schedule with a win over UMBC before a pair of losses to Columbia and Brown. Fox becomes the first Lehigh field hockey player to earn a weekly award from the league this season.

In her first game at the Ulrich Sports Complex, Fox iced the Mountain Hawks 3-1 win over UMBC by getting to a loose ball in front of the cage and sliding it under the Retrievers’ goalkeeper for her first career tally. Sunday, Fox accounted for Lehigh’s only goal in a 4-1 loss to Brown with a perfectly executed redirection of Kelly Hansen’s drive from outside the scoring circle.

For the season, the Wilmington, Delaware native is tied for second on the Mountain Hawks with two goals and is third on the team with four points.

Also on Monday, senior goalkeeper Stephanie Palmieri earned honorable mention honors from the league for the second straight week. Palmieri made 29 saves in three games for the Mountain Hawks including a season-best 17 stops versus Brown on Sunday. Her 17 saves were the second highest single game total in the league this season.

Fox, Palmieri and the rest of the Mountain Hawks will look to snap a two game losing streak when they return to action Friday afternoon at La Salle. Game time is set for 2:00 from Philadelphia.
