Mountain Hawks place a pair on All-League teams

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After finishing the regular season with 11 league victories, the most in school history, Lehigh was awarded for its on-court performance by having two players named to the All-League teams in Jose Olivero and Joe Knight.  The All-League teams, which are voted on by the league’s eight head coaches, were announced on Wednesday by the Patriot League office.  Olivero was a First Team pick, while Knight garnered Second Team accolades.

Olivero becomes just the fifth player in school history to be named a First Team selection, joining Bob Krizansky, Brett Epehimer, Zlatko Savovic and Austen Rowland.  Of those five First Team selections, three have played for current head coach Billy Taylor (Savovic, Rowland, Olivero).  Olivero finished the regular season as the league’s highest scorer at 17.5 points per game, while ranking first in three-point field goals made (69), third in three-point field goal percentage (.423), seventh in assists (3.1), and eighth in field goal percentage (.448).

The Fairfax native is currently tied for 13th in school history with 1,231 points and became the first Mountain Hawk to score 500 points in a single season since Eppehimer did it during the 1997-98 season.  Olivero was an All-Rookie Team selection as a freshman in 2003-04, after averaging 13 points per contest.

Despite missing the first 16 games of the season, Knight still finished sixth in the Patriot League during league play in scoring (14.4), ninth in three-point field goals made (23), 14th in assists (2.4), and 15th in three-point field goal percentage (.343).  He is tenth in school annals with 1,321 points and fourth in Lehigh history with 176 three-point field goals.  Knight was the Big South Rookie of the Year as a freshman at High Point University in 2002, and was named to the Big South Second-Team after averaging 16.3 points per game as a sophomore in the 2002-03 season.

Lehigh begins action in the 2006 Patriot League Tournament on Friday evening in Worcester, Mass.  The third-seeded Mountain Hawks will take on the sixth-seeded Colgate Raiders beginning at 5:30 from the Hart Center.  Tickets for the tournament can be purchased through the Lehigh Athletics Ticket Office at (610) 7LU-GAME.
