BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After splitting its two games over the weekend, two Mountain Hawks garnered honorable mention from the Patriot League, as the league handed out its weekly field hockey awards on Monday afternoon. Senior back Mel Lepko and junior midfielder Christy Smith earned honorable mention honors as they helped the Mountain Hawks bounce back from a loss to rival Lafayette with a win over Rider on Sunday.

Lepko earned her first career points in Lehigh’s 3-2 win over Rider at the Ulrich Sports Complex. The fifth-year senior from nearby Quakertown deflected Stacy Sommerfield’s drive past the Rider goalkeeper and into the back of the cage to give Lehigh a 1-0 lead.

Later, Lepko set Smith up for the eventual game-winning goal off a penalty corner. Lepko took the corner, and after a good set from junior Marny Hearn, Smith blasted a shot into the cage to extend the Mountain Hawks’ lead to 3-1. The goal was Smith’s fourth of the season, tying her for the team lead. The Downingtown native leads the Mountain Hawks with nine points so far in 206.

The Mountain Hawks (4-7, 1-1 Patriot League) will return to the turf on Wednesday night as they continued their six game home stand by welcoming the Lady Eagles of Lock Haven to the Ulrich Sports Complex. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
