Lehigh welcomes No. 19 American in home finale

The Mountain Hawks are looking to get back on the winning track after dropping their last three games, including a 2-1 setback to Sacred Heart on Wednesday night. Lehigh is 1-4 on this current six game homestand, but at 1-2 in the league, the Brown and White remain very much alive for what would be a third-straight Patriot League tournament appearance. Junior Stacy Sommerfield netted Lehigh’s only goal on Wednesday, her first career score. Junior Christy Smith and sophomore Kara Zweizig continue to lead the team with four goals apiece, while senior Mel Lepko and junior Marny Hearn are tied with a team-leading four assists. Lepko joins goalkeeper Stephanie Palmieri, midfielder Moria Garrity and forward Kelsey Smith as the Lehigh field hockey class of 2007.
American, the three-time defending league and tournament champions come in with a 10-5 record and are tied atop the league standings with Holy Cross at 3-0. The Eagles are coming off a 5-1 loss to No. 1 Maryland on Wednesday. Sophomore Irene Schickhardt leads the Eagles in scoring with 11 goals and eight assists this season.
The Eagles lead the all-time series versus Lehigh, 7-0 with two of those wins coming in the 2004 and 2005 Patriot League semifinals. American won last year’s regular season meeting 9-1 in Washington, then went on to defeat the Mountain Hawks 7-0 in the Patriot League Tournament.
