Yale builds big lead, hangs on for win over Lehigh

Lehigh falls to 4-8 following its second straight setback, while the Bulldogs improve to 1-10 on the season with the victory.
The first half saw several lead changes, before the Bulldogs pulled away late for a 13-point halftime advantage. The momentum carried over to the early portion of the second half, where the Bulldogs pulled out to a 43-26 advantage on a Chinenye Okafor layup with 18:21 remaining.
Lehigh slowly whittled away at the lead, trimming the deficit to three with 16 seconds to play, thanks to a running jumper from Sara Ellis.
The Mountain Hawks could get no closer, however, and Yale free throws ultimately put the game away.
Lehigh was plagued by poor shooting all night, hitting on just 35% of its shots. The Mountain Hawks were out-rebounded on the night as well, 39 to 35. LU remained in the contest thanks to success from the free throw line, where Lehigh connected on 20-of-27 opportunities (74%).
Ellis led Lehigh with 20 points, including 11-of-11 from the line. A first half three-pointer from Ellis was number 147 in her career, tying her with Cat Nicholson ’03 for second place all-time at Lehigh.
Adrienne Blount added 13 points and seven rebounds for the Mountain Hawks, while Jenny Callan scored 12 before fouling out.
Four Bulldogs scored in double figures, led by 17 from Jamie Van Horne.
