Lehigh drops second straight at McDonalds Invitational

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Mountain Hawks fell to 0-2 at the Texas A&M/McDonalds Invitational as Lehigh was beaten by Virginia, 3-0 Friday evening at the G. Rollie White Coliseum. Game scores were 30-15, 30-20 and 30-19 as the Brown and White fall to 0-5 on the season, with a match against tournament host and No. 16 ranked Texas A&M looming on Saturday. The Cavaliers begin their season with an 0-1 record.

 

Once again, Lehigh was done in by its inability to hit for a high percentage. The Mountain Hawks racked up just 27 kills and 28 errors in 112 attacks as they hit for a negative percentage. They also allowed Virginia to tally 47 kills and a .369 percentage.

 

Michelle Schwendenmann led Lehigh with 8 kills, while Courtney Cherry chipped in with six. Defensively, libero Cassidy Maumus recorded a season-high 18 digs. Virginia was paced by Lindsay Osco’s 11 kills and Katie Oaks’ 10 kills.

 

Earlier Friday, Lehigh gave No. 23 Saint Mary’s an early battle before losing 3-0, with game scores 30-22, 30-17 and 30-16.

 

The Mountain Hawks will wrap up play at the Texas A&M/McDonalds Invitational on Saturday afternoon, when they take on tournament host No. 16 Texas A&M at 1:00 EDT.
