Lehigh falls to Towson in Temple University Classic finale

PHILADELPHIA – Lehigh dropped its third straight match Saturday afternoon as the Mountain Hawks were beaten by Towson 3-0 in their final match at the Temple University Classic at McGonigle Hall. Game scores were 30-14, 30-15 and 30-19 as the Mountain Hawks fall to 0-3 on the season, while the Tigers wrap up tournament play with a 2-1 record.
Towson controlled the tempo throughout, out-hitting the Mountain Hawks in all three games. For the match the Tigers registered 43 kills and a .312 hitting percentage, compared to just 24 kills and a .062 percentage for the Brown and White.
For the third straight game junior Michelle Schwendenmann led Lehigh with eight kills. Senior Morgan Volkart chipped in with seven kills and four blocks for the Mountain Hawks. Towson's Valerie Chromy led all players with 12 kills on the afternoon.
Earlier Saturday, a Lehigh game three rally fell just short as the Mountain Hawks lost to Rutgers 3-0. Game scores were 30-12, 30-21 and then 32-30 in a back and forth third game.
Lehigh will return to the court on Friday, September 2 as the Mountain Hawks head to College Station, Texas to take part in the McDonalds/Texas A&M Invitational. The Mountain Hawks will open tournament play against No. 23 Saint Mary's at 1:00 p.m. EST, then will face Virginia at approximately 5:30 p.m.
