The Mountain Hawks hung tough in the first game, before Bucknell pulled away at the end. Lehigh then battled back, taking an early lead in game two and holding on to knot the match at one. Game three was Lehigh’s best offensive game of the night, with 17 kills and a .286 attack percentage, but the Bison were better hitting .455 and capitalizing on seven Lehigh attack errors. The Mountain Hawks also took an early lead in game four, but were plagued by 13 attack errors and a hitting percentage of -.100 as the Bison were able to close out the match in four games.
“There was not a lot of energy out there tonight,” said head coach Amanda Moran. “We went back to some of our old habits with serves and errors. Hopefully we will come out with a little more energy tomorrow for senior night.”
Sophomore Shannon Spafford led the Mountain Hawks with 15 kills and a .357 hitting percentage on the evening. Michelle Schwendenmann added 12 kills as Lehigh hit .092 as a team for the match. Cassidy Maumus had a team best 18 digs on the evening.
Jennie Smith and Kristen Sydlowski led a balanced Bison attack with eight kills apiece. Bucknell hit .183 for the match.
The Mountain Hawks will play their final home match of 2005 on Saturday as they will entertain Colgate on senior day. The match gets underway at 4:00 from Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall.
