Second half rally falls short in loss to Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. – Lehigh battled its third Ivy League foe in a row on Tuesday night and the Mountain Hawks could not overcome a 15 point halftime deficit in a 68-57 setback to Princeton at Jadwin Gym. The Mountain Hawks trailed by as much a 17 in the second half, and staged a furious rally that brought them within four, but that was as close as Lehigh would get as the Brown and White fall to 1-2 on the season. Princeton evens its record at 1-1.

 

The Mountain Hawks struggled through the first half, allowing Princeton to shoot 56 percent from the field, while being out-rebounded by a 21-13 margin. The Mountain Hawks were led by junior Adrienne Blount who scored eight points on four of six shooting. Freshman Tricia Smith added six for the Mountain Hawks. Princeton took advantage of its size advantage on the interior. Three Tigers reached double figures in the first half led by Meg Cowher who poured in 12.

 

In the second half Lehigh picked up its intensity and battled back. Senior Jenny Callan erupted for 14 points in the second 20 minutes after being limited to just four in the first half. The Mountain Hawks were also more active on the backboards as they out-rebounded the Tigers 24-11 after halftime.

 

Callan led the Mountain Hawks with 18 points on 6-of -10 shooting. Blount was the only other Mountain Hawk to finish in double figures with 13. She also added a team best eight rebounds on the night. Lehigh finished the night shooting 40 percent from the field, but the Brown and White shot just 2 of 10 from beyond the three point arc.

 

Becky Brown led Princeton with 19 points on a perfect 9-for-9 from the field.
