Mountain Hawks set to return to action against Navy

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh takes to the pitch for the first time in ten days as the Mountain Hawks welcome the Navy Midshipmen to the Ulrich Sports Complex Friday night for a key Patriot League clash. The Mountain Hawks, currently ranked eighth in the Mid-Atlantic region by Soccer Buzz, look to continue their impressive start to the Patriot League season, as the Brown and White are 3-0 in the League for the first time in school history. 

 

Reigning Patriot League Rookie of the Week Julie Kafka has been lights out goal as of late, allowing just one goal in the past five games including a shutout in Lehigh’s 1-0 win at Bucknell on October 11, her school record 9th clean sheet of the season.  Sophomore back Michaela Pawlewicz also garnered the league’s Defensive Player of the Week honors for her efforts in shutting down the Bison. The Mountain Hawks have allowed just three goals this season, the fewest in Division I.

 

 In addition to Lehigh’s superb defense, Juniors Gina Lewandowski (11 points) and Daniela Molina (10 points) continue to pace the Mountain Hawk offensive attack.  Freshman Christin Johnson has also been on an offensive tear as of late, scoring three goals in the team’s last two outings. The win over Bucknell was also a milestone for head coach Manny Oudin, who became the winningest coach in the history of the Lehigh women’s soccer program, picking up win number 36.

 

Navy (9-5-2, 1-3 Patriot League) arrives in Bethlehem on the heels of a 5-1 victory over Howard on Monday in Annapolis.  The Midshipmen offensive attack is led by junior forward Meggie Curran, who currently ranks third among Patriot League goal scorers with nine. Curran also leads the league in assists, with ten.  Navy’s defense has kept the team in every game this season, losing only one game by more than one goal.  Goalkeeper Haley Crain currently ranks third in the league with a 0.99 goals against avg. These two teams met last year in Annapolis with Navy notching a 4-2 come-from-behind victory behind two goals from Curran.
