The Mountain Hawks won their only game last week, 1-0 at Bucknell, before week-long rains forced the postponement of a home match with Army on Friday. Against the Bison, the Lehigh defense pitched its tenth shutout of the season, with Pawlewicz continuing to be a key contributor from the center-back position. Against Bucknell, she helped keep the league’s leading goal scorer and reigning Offensive Player of the Week Jennifer Margolis off the scoreboard while holding her to just two shots.
Kafka has been the beneficiary of Lehigh’s strong defensive play all season long. Against the Bison, Kafka stopped four shots en route to her school record ninth shutout of the season. Kafka is now 10-1-1 with a 0.25 goals-against average, which leads the Patriot League and ranks second in the nation. Her .952 save percentage remains the best in all of Division I.
As a team, last Tuesday’s blanking of Bucknell propelled Lehigh into the top spot with a 0.226 goals-against average. The Mountain Hawks have yielded an Division I-low three goals in 13 matches. No other team has allowed fewer than five. Lehigh continues to lead the NCAA in shots-on-goal save percentage and shutout percentage. The Mountain Hawks are also seventh in winning percentage, just one of seven teams to have one loss of fewer this season.
Lehigh moved up two spots to eighth in the latest Mid-Atlantic regional rankings from Soccer Buzz magazine, the highest ever ranking for the Brown and White. In the NSCAA regional rankings Lehigh remains at No. 10.
The Mountain Hawks return to the pitch on Friday night, when they will host Navy. The Midshipmen are receiving votes in the latest Soccer Buzz regional poll. The match gets underway at 7:00 and will be broadcast online at lehighsports.com with streaming audio and video provided by Yahoo! Sports.
