Bethlehem, PA – Alisa Kresge hit a three-pointer from the left baseline with three seconds remaining to propel the Marist Red Foxes past Lehigh 55-53 on Wednesday evening at Stabler Arena.  Freshman Claire Sullivan hoisted a last second three-point shot from near mid-court that just missed off to the left and gave Marist the victory.  With the loss, the Mountain Hawks fall to 8-4 on the season, while the Red Foxes improve to 6-5.

Sullivan finished with a career high six assists for Lehigh, and she also added seven points, including two three-pointers.  Senior captain Jessica DePalo added 16 points on eight of 16 shooting, while sophomore Sara Ellis hit for 13 tallies.  The Red Foxes received 15 points from Megan Vetter and 14 from Fifi Camara in the victory.

Lehigh struggled in the early going with its offense, as the Red Foxes jumped out to a 20-9 lead at the 12:09 mark.  But the Mountain Hawks fought their way back and took the lead at the 7:10 mark of the first half on two free throws by Adrienne Blount and for the rest of the half the squads battled back and forth, with Marist taking a three-point advantage into the locker room, 28-25.

DePalo scored 12 points in the opening stanza for Lehigh, while Jenny Callan added four points, but was whistled for three fouls.  The Red Foxes received ten points from Vetter in the opening twenty minutes, as they shot 43 percent from the field compared to 50 for the Brown and White.

The second half started much of the same as the first as Marist ballooned its lead to ten with 15 minutes remaining, but Lehigh slowly chipped away and finally took its first lead of the half at the 5:27 mark on a three-pointer by Hynoski.  The Mountain Hawks then kept its lead for the remainder of the game until Kresge’s shot at the end.

The Mountain Hawks wound up shooting 44 percent from the field and 50 percent from beyond the arc, while Marist connected on 41 percent of its shots and 33 from three-point range.  Lehigh out rebounded Marist 33-31, but had 17 turnovers compared to the Red Foxes 14.

Lehigh returns to action on Saturday evening as the Mountain Hawks open up Patriot League play vs. American at Stabler Arena.  Game time is set for 7:00 and all of the action can be heard live on 91.3 FM WLVR as well as on Lehigh’s website at lehighsports.com.
