Lehigh finishes 1-2 at Mountain Hawk Classic

Lehigh lost its first match on Saturday 3-1 to Marist. Game scores were 28-30, 30-26, 31-29 and 30-18.
The Mountain Hawks looked sharp as they jumped out to an early lead and held on to win game one. Games two and three were back and forth affairs with the Red Foxes prevailing then utilizing a 9-0 run to win the deciding game four.
Michelle Schwendenmann led the Mountain Hawks with 16 kills and 12 digs. Nikki Barnes added 11 kills and Jill Racketa chipped in with 10 kills and 10 digs.
“We came out on fire,” said coach Amanda Moran, who was able to find some silver lining in the defeat.
“We’re starting to learn the difference between individual and team volleyball.
In the nightcap the Mountain Hawks lost to North Carolina State 3 games to 1. Game scores were 30-21, 22-30, 30-24, 30-19
Lehigh took a 12-8 lead in game one , but the Wolfpack went on a 15-4 run to take the game. The Mountain Hawks came back with a big run of their own in game 2, building a 21-14 advantage and never looking back. Lehigh was able to hang with the bigger, faster Wolfpack team but in the end
“We had the momentum swinging our way,” Moran said. “A few missed opportunities let the air out of our sails.”
Schwendenmann posted identical 16 kill, 12 dig numbers against the Wolfpack, who got 14 kills from Melanie Rowe and 10 kills and 7 blocks from Stefani Eddins.
NC State took home the tournament trophy with a 3-0 record. Marist finished 2-1. Lehigh finished at 1-2 and
