McCoy ready for action in Athens

8/26/2004 12:00:00 AM | Men's Wrestling

Lehigh assistant wrestling coach Kerry McCoy will make his long-awaited 2004 Olympic debut on Friday when the men’s freestyle wrestling competition gets underway. McCoy finished fifth in the heavyweight division four years ago in Sydney, but comes to Athens looking to become just the second American in the last 80 years to win a Gold Medal in the heavyweight division. McCoy is a five-time national champion and won a Silver medal at last year’s world championship.

Mountain Hawks head coach Greg Strobel is with McCoy in Athens as a volunteer assistant. Strobel was the United States’ head coach four years ago. This year his primary job is to study tape on McCoy’s possible opponents.
