Bethlehem, PA – Colgate got hot at the right time Sunday afternoon, scoring eleven unanswered points over the last three minutes of the game to defeat Lehigh 73-62  Four Raiders players scored in double figures, as Colgate dropped Lehigh into a tie for first place in the Patriot League standings.

In the first half, the lead bounced back and forth between the two teams, with 6 ties and 5 lead changes. Both teams showed some rust from the Friday-Sunday scheduling, as they both turned the ball over more than ten times. Trailing 8-5, Colgate went on an 11-0 run over 3:55 to take a 16-8 lead.  Lehigh got right back into it with a 12-4 run of their own to tie the game at 20-20, capped off when two-time defending Patriot League Freshman of the Week Sara Ellis drove the lane and delivered a sweet behind the back pass to Jessica DePalo to tie the score.  Ellis had four assists in the half and DePalo had 14 points, as Lehigh took a 32-31 lead into intermission.

The second half played out very similarly, with Colgate jumping out ahead 38-32 right off the bat.  They would lead for most of the rest of the game.  With Colgate up 59-51, Lehigh would go on a 11-3 run to tie it at 62 with 5:34 left to play on a pair of free throws by freshman Adrienne Blount.  But Colgate would hold the Mountain Hawks scoreless the rest of the way, handing Lehigh their second straight home loss.

DePalo led Lehigh with 24 points, while Jenny Callan chipped in with 10 points off the bench.  Melissa Burke was the high scorer for Colgate with 20, while Emily Braseth had 16 and Milaina Lagzdins had 14 points and 14 rebounds.

The Mountain Hawks (8-12, 5-2) are now tied for first place in the Patriot League with Colgate (13-7, 5-2), with American a half game behind pending completion of their game late Sunday with Army.

Lehigh returns to the court on Saturday as they travel to Annapolis to take on Navy.  Game time is set for 1:00, with radio coverage provided by 91.3 WLVR and on Lehigh’s website at www.lehighsports.com.
