Lehigh heads to Xavier in a homecoming for Monserez

Bethlehem, PA - Lehigh travels to Cincinnati on Tuesday evening in a battle of 2004 NCAA Tournament teams that have struggled of late as the Mountain Hawks have lost three of their last four games and Xavier has dropped four of its last five. Lehigh fell to Harvard 67-56 on Saturday afternoon in play. Lehigh senior captain Nick Monserez hails from Monserez, who will have around 20 family members and friend in attendance, spoke of this opportunity to go back home. “This is a great experience to be able to play in front of so many friends and family members who have not gotten to see me play. Outside of my immediate family, most of these people have never seen me play in person, so that will be a neat experience for all of them and for me.”
Head Coach Billy Taylor tries to get each one of his players a so-called “home game” during their careers at Lehigh and is excited about this chance for Monserez. “This is a great opportunity for Nick to have the chance to play at home in front of his family and friends. He has played in this city throughout his high school career and now he has a chance to come back home, it’s really all come full circle for him.”
Lehigh and Xavier have never met before, but the Mountain Hawks know that it will be a tough game come Tuesday evening versus the Musketeers. “We really have to pay close attention to the small things, on both sides of the court” explains Monserez. “If we can play solid defense, rebound the basketball and execute on offense, we will give ourselves a chance to be in the game.”
