Lehigh seeks first road win of season versus Harvard

12/16/2004 12:00:00 AM | Men's Basketball

Bethlehem, PA - Lehigh opens up a four-game road trip Saturday afternoon as the Mountain Hawks travel to Cambridge to take on the Crimson of Harvard following a 65-39 victory over Eastern on Wednesday evening in Bethlehem.  Lehigh has not won a game on the road since defeating Navy in Annapolis on February 7, 2004 when the Mountain Hawks held the Midshipmen to just 38 points, the lowest ever by a Lehigh opponent in Patriot League play.  Lehigh has not won at Harvard since November 28, 1998, when Brett Eppehimer dropped 30 on the Crimson en route to an 89-87 victory.  Harvard comes into Saturday’s contest following a 68-53 loss at Fairfield on Tuesday evening in Connecticut.  Brian Cusworth led four Harvard players in double figures with 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Lehigh is 7-3 versus teams out of the Ivy League under Billy Taylor, including a record of 2-2 on the road.  The Mountain Hawks have averaged 68 points in those ten games, and have won the seven contests by an average of 9.1 points.  Jose Olivero seems to enjoy playing against the Ivy League the most, evidenced by his 17.8 scoring average versus the Ancient Eight, including his season high last year of 24 vs. Harvard, and his career high this season, 29 against the Big Green of Dartmouth.

In its game versus Eastern, Lehigh pressured the Eagles into 27 percent shooting (15-55), including 13.6 percent (3-22) in the first half, which was the lowest for one half by a Lehigh opponent since Army shot 12 percent (3-24) in the first half on January 25, 2004.  The 27 percent was the lowest by an opponent for an entire game since Navy shot 27 percent (17-61) in a 66-38 Mountain Hawk victory on February 7, 2004 in Annapolis.

Saturday’s tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 from Harvard’s Lavietes Pavilion.  All of the action can be heard live on 91.3 FM WLVR beginning at 1:45 with Matt Kerr and Rich Haas providing all of the commentary.
