Lehigh drops a heartbreaker to Holy Cross

Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh fell to Holy Cross on Saturday evening at Grace Hall by a score of 3-2.  The two teams battled back and forth all evening long, but in the end the Crusaders had just enough to edge the Mountain Hawks in the decisive fifth game.  With the loss, Lehigh drops to 2-21 in 2004, including 1-11 in Patriot League play, while Holy Cross ups its record to 6-18 and 5-7 in league action.

 

Lehigh dropped the first game of the evening 30-17, but was able to come back and win the next two by scores of 30-23 and 30-20.  However the Crusaders would win the fourth game, in what was the tightest of the night ending in a 30-25 Holy Cross triumph.  In the final game the teams again went head to head for the duration, but in the end the Crusaders pulled away narrowly escaping with a 15-12 victory to seal the match.

 

Junior Morgan Volkart had an outstanding game for the Mountain Hawks, recording 12 aces, as well as nine kills and 20 total attacks.  Nikky Barnes had 12 kills, while senior Jill Racketa, who was honored before the match on “Senior Night” added 20 kills and 33 total attacks.  Holy Cross was led by Caitlin Agostinacchio with 24 kills and 40 total attacks.

 

Lehigh returns to action on November 12 when the Mountain Hawks travel to the nation’s capital to take on American.  Game time is set for 7:00.
