11/12/2004 12:00:00 AM | Volleyball

Washington, D.C. – The Mountain Hawks visited the nation’s capital on Friday night and came away with their twelfth straight defeat, as they were beaten by American 3-0 at Bender Arena. Game scores were 30-25, 30-17 and 30-26 as the Mountain Hawks fell to 2-22 on the season, 1-12 in the Patriot League. American is 20-5, 13-0 PL. The Eagles have already clinched the Patriot League regular season championship and have now won 61 league matches in a row.

Lehigh took advantage of a sluggish American start to hang tough in game one, but the Eagles got six kills from Cutrina Biddulph and five from Natacha Cornaz to comeback and win the game. The Mountain Hawks were very much alive in game three as they utilized a 13-5 run to take a lead halfway through the game. The Eagles would rally however, and ultimately take game three and the match.

Michelle Schwendenmann led the Mountain Hawks with eight kills. Lehigh only hit .068 as a team for the match. Defensively, Nikky Barnes led the way with eight digs. Biddulph led American with 13 kills.

Lehigh returns to the court tomorrow night as the Mountain Hawks wrap-up the 2004 season against Navy. First serve set for 7:00 from Annapolis, Maryland.
