Mountain Hawks open up home schedule tonight

Bethlehem, PA - Lehigh will look for its first win of the season tonight as it opens up its 2004-05 home schedule welcoming Sacred Heart to Stabler Arena.  Despite being just 1-1 in home openers under Billy Taylor, the Mountain Hawks are 24-3 at Stabler under their headman and enter tonight’s contest riding a 13-game winning streak inside the building, which is a school record.  Lehigh has won those last 13 contests by an average of just over 12 points per ball game.

These two teams have played only once before and it was last year when the Mountain Hawks traveled to Fairfield to take on the Pioneers at the Pitt Center.  Lehigh fell 58-56 as Kibwe Trim slammed home a missed shot attempt with just seven second remaining to put Sacred Heart in front by two before Lehigh’s last second attempt was off of the mark.  James Samuels scored a game-high 21 points for the Pioneers while Lehigh was led by Austen Rowland’s 19 tallies.

In its last time out Lehigh dropped its second straight contest to begin the new season falling 66-56 on Sunday evening in Brooklyn to Long Island University.  Sophomore Jason Mgebroff scored eight of Lehigh’s first 14 points but was forced to the bench due to foul trouble.  Sophomore Jose Olivero led Lehigh with 14 points, while the Blackbirds received 13 points from both Aubin Scott and James Williams.

Lehigh has only lost three consecutive games once in Taylor’s regime and that was at the very end of his inaugural campaign.  The Mountain Hawks dropped contests to Lafayette (86-68), Colgate (75-68), Holy Cross (72-64) and in the Patriot League Tournament versus Bucknell (52-47).
