Christine Smith stepped her game up a notch for the Mountain Hawks, scoring two goals in Lehigh’s 4-2 win over
Lafayette on October 27 at the Ulrich Sports Complex. For her efforts, Smith has been named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week, as well as the womensfieldhockey.com Rookie of the Week. This is the second time in 2004 that Smith was honored by the Patriot League for her play.
After falling behind early versus the archrival Leopards, Smith tied the contest at one when she scored an unassisted goal at the 14:13 mark of the first half. Smith then put the game out of reach when she scored another unassisted goal at the 56:28 mark to help lift the Mountain Hawks to their first Patriot League Tournament appearance since 1996. Smith now has three goals and eight points in her inaugural season donning the Brown and White. Lehigh currently sits at 9-9 on the season, 2-3 in Patriot League play.
Lehigh returns to action when the Mountain Hawks travel to Hamilton, New York to take on top-seeded American in the 2004 Patriot League Tournament. The two teams will do battle on Saturday morning at 11 o’clock with the winner advancing to the Patriot League Championship on Sunday at noon.
