Lehigh defeats Holy Cross, moves onto tournament

Worcester, MA – Lehigh clinched a spot in the Patriot League Tournament for the first time since 1994 with a convincing 3-0 win over Holy Cross on Saturday afternoon.  Sophomore Gina Lewandoski scored her 12th and 13th goals of the season and senior Erin Iwaskiewicz posted her seventh shutout of the season to lift Lehigh to the victory.  With the win, the Brown and White stands at 11-7, 5-2 in conference play, both school records for wins in a season.

Freshman Melissa Montalvo also scored for the Mountain Hawks, her sixth goal in 2004, while senior Jocelyn Helwig handed out her eighth and ninth assists for the year, as she continues to climb up the all-time assist list at Lehigh.  Iwaskiewicz stopped six Crusader shots on the afternoon, as she once again anchored the stifling Lehigh defense.

Lehigh returns to action on Friday, November 5 when the Mountain Hawks travel to Hamilton, New York to play in the Patriot League Tournament.  Lehigh, seeded second, will take on third seeded American at 7:00.  The two teams did battle earlier in the season, and it was the Eagles coming away with a 2-1 victory in overtime.  All of Lehigh’s postseason action can be heard live on lehighsports.com.
