- Following a week in which Lehigh set a school record for wins in a season and defeated arch-rival Lafayette, sophomore Gina Lewandowski and senior Erin Iwaskiewicz were respectively honored as Patriot League Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week.
Lewandowski converted a penalty kick in a 3-0 win over Lafayette on Monday and then on Saturday night she headed in the game’s only goal in a 1-0 win over a Colgate team that was previously unbeated in Patriot League play. This is the first Patriot League honor in 2004 in Lewandowski, who was named Patriot League Freshman of the Year in 2003. This year she leads the Mountain Hawks with 11 goals and has already moved into second on Lehigh’s all-time goal scoring list with 23.
Iwaskiewicz was named Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. The senior captain posted a pair of shutouts last week, making two saves against Lafayette, then four as the Mountain Hawks blanked Colgate. Iwaskiewicz has posted a 1.16 goals against average this season and leads the Patriot League with six shutouts.
