Hellertown, PA – The 2004-05 basketball season tipped off on Thursday afternoon at Patriot League Media Day held at Silver Creek Country Club.  Each of the league’s eight coaches attended the event, as did select media personnel from around the league.  Lehigh head coach Billy Taylor got a chance to address all in attendance and he gave his thoughts on the upcoming season.

“We lose some very key players from our Patriot League Championship team of a year ago.  But we also bring back four starters, and the guys are very anxious to get things started.”  The two-time Patriot League Coach of the Year continued, “This is a great league with wonderful coaches and I have been able to learn such a great deal from this fraternity of Patriot League coaches.  I’m just looking forward to beginning the season and seeing what we can do with the team we have.”

The preseason poll and all-league team were also announced on Thursday at the event and the defending champion Mountain Hawks find themselves in second place, 18 points behind the Bucknell Bison, who are favored to win the Patriot League.  No Lehigh players were selected to the preseason All-League team, despite two returning Mountain Hawks being selected to postseason teams in 2003-04.

The Mountain Hawks being their season on Friday evening with Midnight Madness at Grace Hall.  The event gets underway at 11:30 pm and should run until approximately 1:00 am.  Admission is free and all are invited to attend.  Lehigh will then begin its preseason practices on Saturday as the Mountain Hawks gear up for the season opener on Friday, November 19 at in-state rival Penn State.
