Philadelphia, PA – Lehigh had its two-game winning streak snapped Tuesday night as the Mountain Hawks came up on the short end of a 73-43 score to Penn at The Palestra in Lehigh’s final tune-up before Patriot League play. The Mountain Hawks struggled shooting the basketball all night (19%), while Penn shot 41% from the floor in the win. In the first half, the Quakers (5-5) came out strong and built an early 17-point advantage. Jewel Clark, Penn’s leading scorer at 20 points per game coming in, didn’t shoot the ball particularly well, but she still managed to score eight in the first stanza. Penn sophomore Jen Fleischer led all scorers with 12 in the first 20 minutes on 6-of-7 shooting. Meanwhile, Lehigh was just 8-of-33 from the floor (24%). Sophomore Jenny Callan led the Mountain Hawks with six first half points off the bench. Lehigh (3-9) came out strong in the second half and quickly sliced the Quakers’ lead to nine points at 38-29 with 15:23 to play. But the Mountain Hawks’ run was short-lived as Penn then went on a 16-2 run to blow the game open. Jewel Clark led the Quakers with 15 points and 13 rebounds in the win. Lehigh was led by eight points off the bench from Callan, and a career-best seven from freshman Adrienne Blount. Blount also added a personal best six steals on the night. The Mountain Hawks return to action Saturday as they open Patriot League play against Navy at Stabler Arena. Tip-off is set for 5:30, with the second annual Winter Youth Activity Night activities kicking off at 6:00. Fun for all ages includes mascots from the Cartoon Network, face painting, and several games.
