Lehigh prepares for the start of play

Lehigh women’s soccer is getting ready for the team’s second season under Coach Manny Oudin, as preseason practices wind down this week. The Mountain Hawks had a positive scrimmage recently against Fairfield, playing hard and competing throughout.
All-League goalie Erin Iwaskiewicz returns for her junior season in net, and an impressive group of freshmen hopes to help the Mountain Hawks improve upon their offensive output from last season. The Mountain Hawks will need to replace Lauren Day, who left Lehigh with 30 points, good enough for third all-time in school history. Senior co-captain Anne Johnson will be joined by returners Jocelyn Helwig and Lauren Rybas as they try to make offense a larger priority this season.
They won’t need to score much though for Iwaskiewicz to keep it close. She had three shutouts last season and allowed more than two goals in only four games. So, if the newcomers can help pick up some of the offensive slack, look for their star netminder to keep the Mountain Hawks in contention.
Lehigh, which was picked to finish eighth in the Patriot League in a poll of coaches and sports information directors, begins its season on August 29, at Villanova. Game time is set for 4:00.
