Lehigh falls on senior day

Bethlehem, PA – Freshman Dawn Gorynski scored 17 points on 6-6 shooting, but it was not enough as Lehigh (12-14, 9-5 Patriot League) fell to Holy Cross (21-7, 13-1 Patriot League) by a final score of 78-65 on Sunday afternoon at Stabler Arena. The Mountain Hawks led for most of the first half and went into the locker room with a 34-33 lead. Senior Anne Tierney scored nine of her 11 points in the opening half. In the second half, the Crusaders took the lead and pulled away. Gorynski poured in 11 of her points in the second half, as she tried to keep the Mountain Hawks in the game. Dawn Gorynski led Lehigh with 17 points, three assists, while shooting 4-4 from behind the arc. Tierney finished her final home game with 11 points, 8 rebounds and three assists. Holy Cross’s Maggie Fontana was the day’s high scorer, pouring in 20 points on 8-13 from the field. The leading rebounder in the game was Mary Rose Campbell, with 10. Both teams shot well from the free throw line, with Lehigh finishing 18-21 and Holy Cross 17-21. The Mountain Hawks had trouble with the Crusaders’ pressure, committing 21 turnovers. The game was senior day for Lehigh. Before the game, the Mountain Hawks honored their four seniors, Shelita Burks, Billi Ford, Cat Nicholson, and Anne Tierney. The loss capped Lehigh’s regular season. The Mountain Hawks will return to action next weekend when they participate in the Patriot League Tournament.
