Bethlehem, PA – On Anne Tierney bobblehead night, the senior from Hawthorne Woods, Ill. posted her fifth double-double of the season; however the Mountain Hawks fell to Pennsylvania 79-69. With the loss Lehigh drops to 5-10 overall, while Penn improves its record to 5-8. Lehigh trailed 37-35 at halftime, but was outscored 42-34 in the final 20 minutes of action. Tierney led the Mountain Hawks in scoring and rebounds. Her 21 points came on a 9-of-16 shooting performance, while nine of her 16 rebounds were of the defensive variety. Carli Toliver also broke into double digits, posting 18 points on the night. Carli had the hot hand early, scoring 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting in the first half. The Quakers were led by Jewel Clark’s 26 points. Clark was 10-of-19 from the floor, including 6-of-7 from the free throw line. Clark played the entire 40 minutes, and pulled down eight rebounds in the win. Karen Habrukowich added 20 points, Mikaelyn Austin had 14, and Katie Kilker poured in 13 points (and pulled down 10 rebounds) in the win. The only Penn starter not to reach double figures in scoring was point guard Tara Twomey, but she added seven assists. The game was very physical, especially in the paint. Lehigh out-rebounded the Quakers 46-37 on the night. The Mountain Hawks struggled offensively throughout the night. Lehigh never seemed to get in a rhythm, and shot 39% from the floor, including 8-of-21 from long distance. The free throw line – usually a place where Lehigh excels – was unkind. The Mountain Hawks were just 3-of-8 from the stripe. Penn shot 47% on the game, and was 15-of-20 from the line. Lehigh returns to Patriot League action on Friday night, when the Mountain Hawks host arch-rival Lafayette. Game time is 6:00 from Stabler Arena.
