Brooklyn, NY – Lehigh went on a 23-2 first-half run and never looked back as the Mountain Hawks defeated the St. Francis (NY) Terriers by a score of 87-57 at Jacobs Gym on the campus of Polytechnic University on Thursday night. The win snaps a five game Lehigh losing streak and marks the first Mountain Hawks’ first win since November 30. Lehigh improves to 2-7 on the season, while the Terriers fall to 0-7.

After the Terriers opened the game on a 5-0 run, Lehigh responded by scoring 23 of the game’s next 25 points to grab a 23-7 lead. The Mountain Hawks were led in the first half by Carli Toliver and Dawn Gorynski, who scored 11 points apiece in the opening 20 minutes. Toliver finished the night with 13 points and three 3-pointers. Gorynski had a career night, as she pulled down 7 rebounds, dished out four assists and came away with five steals on the night. Gorynski scored 14 points.

In the second half, Lehigh continued to pressure the Terriers into turnovers, and the Mountain Hawks took advantage. St. Francis turned the ball over 34 times on the night, leading to 41 Lehigh points. The Mountain Hawks rolled to the 30-point win, their largest margin of victory since a 33-point triumph over Lafayette last January.

In the win, Lehigh out-rebounded the Terriers by a 37-31 count, and the Mountain Hawks shot 49% for the game. Also worth noting was Lehigh senior Anne Tierney. The captain scored 12 points and came away with a career-best five steals.

Lehigh returns home to Stabler Arena for the first time since December 1 on Saturday, when the Mountain Hawks host Quinnipiac at 5:00.
