Loyola rallies past Lehigh

Chicago, IL – Lehigh rallied from a ten point second half deficit, but in the end it wasn’t enough as the Loyola Ramblers handed the Mountain Hawks their fourth straight setback – 60-56 at the Gentile Center on Friday night. Loyola improves to 2-8 with the victory, while the loss drops Lehigh to 1-6 on the season. Lehigh committed 17 first half turnovers in helping the Ramblers to a 33-25 halftime advantage. Lehigh switched up its starting lineup to begin the second 20 minutes of play, and the Mountain Hawks responded. The Brown & White went on a 10-2 run to start the second half, and tie the score at 35. Loyola then built an 11 point lead, and held on down the stretch for the four-point victory. The win also snapped the Ramblers’ five game losing streak. Patriot League Rookie of the Week Dawn Gorynski led Lehigh’s offensive efforts. The freshman point guard scored a team-high 12 points and added five assists. Junior Teniece Johnson scored ten off the bench for Lehigh. Also seeing significant minutes for the Mountain Hawks was freshman Lauren Reini, who scored four points, pulled down four boards, and came away with three steals. As a team, Lehigh shot just 36% from the floor, and a disappointing 2-of-14 from beyond the three-point arc. Lehigh out-rebounded Loyola 41-38. Tracy Henderson led Loyola with 13 points. Meskhenet Lands and Ciara Henderson each added ten for the Ramblers, who shot 41%. The Mountain Hawks return to action Sunday, when Lehigh visits Valparaiso. Game time is set for 3:05 pm Eastern.
