Gorynski sets career high, Lehigh falls

Richmond, VA – Despite a career high 19 from Dawn Gorynski, Lehigh (1-5) fell to VCU (2-5) by a final of 83-73 on Friday night. The Mountain Hawks were red hot from the three point line, going 10-18 from long range. After a fast paced first half, Lehigh trailed by two, 42-40. The half was a tale of two players as Lehigh’s Gorynski had 17 points, while the Rams’ Kristine Austgulen tossed in 20. Gorynski bested her previous career high in the games first eight minutes, then added 12 more for good measure. Carli Toliver added 15 points, 12 in the second half. Playing in front of the home town crowd, Cat Nicholson pitched in with 11. Anne Tierney led the Mountain Hawks with seven rebounds. VCU’s Kristine Austgulen set a career high of her own, scoring a game high 29 points. Her 12 rebounds were also the game high. Cyndy Wilks also had a double-double for the Rams, scoring 15 and pulling down 10 boards. Kaila Mancell matched Wilks in the scoring column, scoring 15 as well. VCU out-rebounded Lehigh 44-22 on the evening. The Mountain Hawks shot 53.3 percent from the field. The Rams made 64.3 percent of their attempts.
