Bethlehem, PA – Senior Anne Tierney scored her 1,500th career point en route to a team-leading 17 points, but it was not enough as Lehigh (1-3, 0-0 Patriot League) lost to Ball State (3-2, 0-0 MAC), 94-71 in the final of the Christmas City Classic Sunday afternoon. It was the Tamara Bowie show for the Cardinals, as the forward tossed in a game high 29 points and nine rebounds to lead the way. Kate Endress added 16 points for Ball State, while Johna Goff assisted on nine Cardinal buckets. Lehigh trailed 50-28 at the half. The Mountain Hawks played Ball State even in the second half, but were unable to chip away at the lead. Tierney and Callan combined for 19 of their 30 points in the final half. Callan was given an opportunity to play in the second stanza, and she stepped up with 13 points. Senior Shelita Burks scored all nine of her points in the half on a perfect 4-4 evening. Sophomore Jessica DePalo grabbed a team best six boards. After the game, Bowie was named the tournament MVP. Joining her on the All-Tournament team were Tierney, Katie Romey of Cornell, Torre Thomas of Tennessee-Martin, and Jessica Reiter of Ball State. Lehigh will return to action on Tuesday, when the Mountain Hawks travel to Columbia for a 7:00 game. The contest will be broadcast live on 91.3 WLVR-FM and on the Lehigh website at www.lehigh.edu.
