North Carolina too much for Lehigh

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Senior Nikki Teasley scored 21 points and came away with six steals to lead 18th-ranked North Carolina past Lehigh 76-47 at Carmichael Auditorium on Saturday night. The win was the third straight for the Tar Heels, who improve to 12-2 (3-0 ACC) on the season. The loss marked the sixth straight setback for the Mountain Hawks, who fall to 4-9 overall (0-0 Patriot League).

Lehigh grabbed an early 5-2 lead, and later led 14-11 before the Heels forged ahead. The game was a see-saw affair early, before the Tar Heels used an 18-0 run to distance themselves from the Mountain Hawks, and give themselves a 14-point halftime cushion.

The Tar Heels continued to pressure the Mountain Hawks in the second half, and cruised to the 29-point win. However, Lehigh fought hard until the end, and the game was closer than the final score indicated.

The Mountain Hawks were led by 17 points from sophomore Carli Toliver, and junior Anne Tierney added 15 for Lehigh. Freshman guard Chantal St. Laurent pulled down a career-best 9 rebounds for the Mountain Hawks.

Lehigh is back in action Wednesday night, as the second season begins: the Mountain Hawks open Patriot League play at Army. Tip-off is set for 5:30 pm from Christl Arena in West Point, New York.
