Hamden, CT- The Braves of Quinnipiac University jumped out to a 14-0 lead and never looked back as they coasted to an 86-56 win over Lehigh at Burt Kahn Court on Wednesday night. With the loss, the Mountain Hawks fall to 2-3 on the season. Meanwhile, the Braves even their mark at 2-2. It seemed as if the Mountain Hawks had a lid on their basket at the start of the game, as five minutes would pass before they could put a point on the board. Quinnipiac went on 20-4 scoring run before Lehigh turned the momentum around. Lehigh cut the deficit to seven before intermission (40-33). The Mountain Hawks looked strong inside the paint as junior captain Anne Tierney and sophomore Jana Ransom led the scoring charge, recording 13 and nine points respectively. However the Braves were not finished. Quinnipiac came out strong in the second half, and Lehigh was unable to recover. The Braves out-scored Lehigh 46-23 in the second stanza. Quinnipiac was led by center Ashlee Kelly, who scored 21 points. Kelly was one of five Braves finishing in double figures on the night: Megan Rooney (16 points), Sara Esidore (13), Katie Keilty (12), and Katie Caputi (11) all had strong performances for the Braves, who shot 50% from the floor (36-72) in the win. Tierney paced all scorers with 22 points on 9-16 shooting. Ransom finished with nine points, and Cat Nicholson scored eight for Lehigh in the defeat. The Mountain Hawks have now dropped two in a row, and will look to get on the right track on Saturday, when Lehigh returns to Stabler Arena for a season-long four game home stand. Lehigh will run with the Lions of Columbia University at 7:00 on Saturday, in a game that will be broadcast on the Lehigh web site and locally on 91.3 FM, WLVR with J.P. Matychak.
