Tempest, Crawford can't stop Colgate

Bethlehem, PA – Despite 19 points and eight rebounds from senior center Matt Crawford and a career high 10 off the bench from freshman Kevin Tempest, Lehigh was defeated by Colgate on Friday at Stabler Arena by a final of 75-68. Lehigh falls to 16-10 overall and 8-5 in the Patriot League, while Colgate ups its record to 13-13, and they are also 8-5 in league play. The two teams battled back and forth the entire first half and going into halftime, the score was knotted at 39. Colgate jumped out to the early lead, but Lehigh put together a run of its own and pulled even as the opening half came to a close. The Mountain Hawks got an unexpected spark from Tempest, who came off the bench to score a career high 10 points on four-of-four shooting. Crawford scored 12 of his points during the first 20 minutes and grabbed four rebounds. The squads then battled back and forth for much of the second half, until Colgate built its lead to ten with 3:54 left and never looked back. Lehigh struggled with its shooting all night and ended the night with a 40% clip from the field. A tough Colgate defense stifled Lehigh’s leading scorer, senior Matt Logie, into an 0-8 shooting night, as the guard finished with just two points. Senior Zlatko Savovic poured in 17 points, including two three pointers, and dished out four assists. Colgate’s top scorer was junior Howard Blue with 21 points and 14 rebounds. Andrew Zidar, Dave Hardy, Mark Linebaugh, and Tim Sullivan joined Blue in double figures. The loss snapped Lehigh’s 12 game home win streak. The Mountain Hawks will look to start a new streak on Sunday when Holy Cross visits Lehigh. Tip off is set for 3:15 p.m., as the Mountain Hawks attempt to improve their seeding for the upcoming Patriot League Tournament. Top Performers
