Bethlehem, PA – A late comeback bid fell short as Lehigh fell to league champion Holy Cross by a final of 72-64. With this loss Lehigh moves to 16-11 overall and 8-6 in the Patriot League. Holy Cross improves to 23-4 overall and 13-1 in the Patriot League. Lehigh trailed the entire first half and went into half time down 42-25. The Mountain Hawks would rally back though to get within six. Lehigh trailed 63-50 after a bucket by Nick Monserez, who scored on an offensive rebound at the 4:20 mark. The momentum swung in Lehigh’s favor as senior center Matt Crawford scored on an assist from Zlatko Savovic with 3:40 left and then again with 2:59 left from another assist from Savovic. Savovic followed that with a pair of clutch three pointers to cut the lead to six. That would be as close as the Mountain Hawks would get, as they were forced to foul down the stretch, eventually falling 72-64. Seniors Zlatko Savovic, Matt Logie, and Matt Crawford all stepped up for their final home game. Savovic had 18 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists. Logie poured in 15 points and Crawford picked up 10 points and 5 rebounds. Lehigh’s fourth senior, Mike Cowgill scored six points on 3-of-4 shooting. Lehigh helped itself on the offensive glass, scoring 13 second chance points compared to only 3 for Holy Cross. The Mountain Hawks will return to action next weekend when they enter the Patriot League Tournament as the fourth seed to face the fifth seed Bucknell Bison. The game will be Saturday at 2:30.
