Lewisburg, PA – Lehigh improved to 2-0 in Patriot League play and earned its tenth win of the season (10-5) with a come-from-behind 60-56 victory at Bucknell’s Sojka Pavilion on Wednesday night. The loss drops the Bison to 7-7 on the season (1-1 in the league). A 35% shooting effort left Lehigh trailing 32-20 at halftime on a night when Bucknell opened its new arena. Matt Crawford and Zlatko Savovic each tallied six points, with Savovic managing a team high three first half assists. Through the first 20 minutes, the Mountain Hawks made only eight shots and committed nine turnovers. For Bucknell, reigning Patriot League Player of the Week Boakai Lalugba managed eight points, as did teammate Kevin Bettencourt. A trio of Bison posted two assists, while the squad turned the ball over only seven times. Bucknell also shot 52% from the floor, while making 14 shots. Lehigh continued to battle back, and the Mountain Hawks eventually tied the score at 54-54 on a Chris Stephenson layup with 4:40 remaining. The score remained deadlocked for more than the next three minutes, with both teams playing solid defense. Finally, Lehigh took its first lead of the night on a Matt Logie fadeaway jumper from the left side with 1:14 on the clock. Logie poured in 19 points in the half, on his way to a 22 point night. Moments later, Savovic hit a jumper from nearly the identical spot on the floor, giving the Brown & White a four point cushion. A Dan Blankenship layup cut the Lehigh lead to two – 58-56 – with 15.9 seconds to play. The Bison were forced to foul Logie down the stretch, and the 94% free throw shooter delivered. Logie finished as the high scorer, netting 22 points, 19 in the second half and adding four rebounds and one assist. Savovic also managed double figures, posting 18 points, eight assists, and six rebounds. The Bison were led by Bettencourt, who tallied 18 points on a 6-of-12 shooting performance. Also in double figures for Bucknell was Lalugba. He finished with 12 points and six boards. Lehigh and Bucknell would each end up shooting 47% from the floor; however it was the Mountain Hawks’ second half performance that gave them the win. Lehigh returns to action on Saturday at 3:30 vs. American. The game can be seen live on Service Electric TV 2, and can be heard live on Oldies 1470, WKAP and on line at www.lehigh.edu. Top Performers
