Savovic scores 18, Lehigh wins fifth straight

Bethlehem, PA – The Mountain Hawks pulled off an amazing come-from-behind victory over American Saturday, 57-54, before an energized crowd of 2,523. With the win the Mountain Hawks improve to 11-5 overall, 3-0 in the Patriot League, while American falls to 6-10 overall, 1-2 in the Patriot League. Lehigh is currently on a five game winning streak and has won all seven of its home games. The five consecutive wins is the best such mark since the 1989-90 season. American led Lehigh by one point at halftime, 27-26. In the first 20 minutes the Mountain Hawks shot 38% from the floor, while the Eagles managed a 41% mark. The second half was a different story; however, as Lehigh out shot American 48% to 45%. Zlatko Savovic managed 18 points on a 7-of-14 shooting performance, including 2-of-5 from three point land. Savovic also led Lehigh in assists with seven. The only other Mountain Hawks’ player in double figures was Matt Logie. Logie tallied 17 points and also was 2-of-5 from three-point land. Nick Monserez, who scored the game-winning bucket with less than five seconds remaining, was the leading rebounder with six, while Matt Crawford tallied Lehigh’s lone block. As a team, Lehigh shot 42% from the floor and committed only six turnovers. American’s top scorer was Steven Miles. Miles posted 18 points on a 7-of-9 shooting performance. Also in double figures for the Eagles was Jernavis Draughn. Draughn tallied 11 points and led in rebounds with seven. Demek Adams dished five assists, while Raimondas Petruauskas blocked American’s lone shot. Lehigh returns to action on Friday vs. Lafayette. Game time is 9:00 p.m. and it will be televised live on Patriot League TV and on DirecTV.
