Lehigh rolls past Swarthmore

Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh (2-7) picked up its second consecutive win as the Mountain Hawks cruised past the Garnet of Swarthmore College (3-5) by a 75-40 score at Stabler Arena on Monday night. The Mountain Hawks were led by freshman Eric Heil, who scored 10 points, pulled down six rebounds, and blocked eighht shots. Lehigh dominated play inside all night, scoring 54 points in the paint to Swarthmore’s 10. Lehigh took a 40-17 lead into the intermission. The second half saw more of the same, as the Mountain Hawks shot 53% for the half, while holding the Garnet to just 29% from the floor after the intermission. Senior center Bobby Mbom scored 11 points and pulled down three rebounds in 14 minutes of action, while Scott Taylor and Alex Jensen chipped in with nine points apiece. Swarthmore was led by Chris Loeffler, who scored 11 points. The Garnet took an 8-6 lead early on, before the Mountain Hawks went on a 13-0 run to pull away. On the night, Lehigh shot 52%, while holding the Garnet to just 26%. After the contest, Lehigh head coach Sal Mentesana said he was pleased with his team’s play. "The game before finals is always a tough one because the guys aren’t always focused on basketball," said Mentesana. "Playing a Division III team allows our players to relax but also work on some fundamentals. It also gives us a chance to see what some of the younger guys can do for us." Lehigh takes a break for final exams before returning to action on Saturday, December 22, when the Mountain Hawks travel to Ithaca, New York to take on Cornell.
