Lawrenceville, NJ- The Mountain Hawks (1-3) continued a successful day for Lehigh sports teams, as they got their first win of the season a 3-1 decision over Howard (0-1). Earlier Friday, the men's soccer team and both cross country teams were victorious.
Lehigh dropped the first game of the match 30-26, but then rallied for three straight by scores of 30-26, 30-15, 30-27. The fourth game was by far the team's best effort, as they combined to make only one error in the game.
Coach Patrick Nicholas was happy to finally put a "W" in the win column. "We played a little uneven, and we have yet to really set our offense," said Nicholas, "but they fought hard and played an outstanding defensive game (102 digs). Hopefully we can gain more consistency on offense as the season goes on and make it easier on our setters."
Senior co-captain Jeanette Singleton led the way for the Mountain Hawks, attaining double digits in both kills (21) and digs (19). Freshman outside hitter Michelle Schwendenmann had 13 kills as well. Senior libero Jill Kober led the defensive effort with 30 digs.
Lehigh will play two games on Saturday as part of the Rider Cranberry Classic, taking on Wagner at noon and then host Rider at 4:00.
