Worcester, MA – Lehigh took a giant step towards making the Patriot League tournament Friday night, beating Holy Cross 3-0 to gain their seventh win in league play. With only two more conference matches remaining, the Mountain Hawks are battling it out with Army and Navy for the final two spots behind American and Bucknell.

Lehigh got out to a quick start, winning the first game 30-16.  Holy Cross (6-19, 3-9) fought back, making the second one a lot closer, but falling 30-27.  In the third game, the Mountain Hawks took firm control and won 30-17.

Freshman Michelle Schwendenmann led three Lehigh (16-12, 7-5) players with double-doubles on the night, posting a match-high 11 kills to go along with 11 digs.  Senior Jeannette Singleton, with 10 kills, moved into second placee all-time at Lehigh in kills, and needs 112 the rest of the season to tie for first. She also recorded 10 digs on the night. Setter Allison Jack recorded 24 assists and 10 digs in helping the team to a very one-sided victory over the home Crusaders. Holy Cross could not place anyone in double figures, but had three players with seven kills apiece.

The win was crucial for the Mountain Hawks, as they go into Army tomorrow night in a battle for third place.  Both teams are 7-5 in Patriot League play, with Lehigh beating Army in Bethlehem 3-1 on October 10th.  Army defeated Lafayette Friday night at home, setting up Saturday’s pivotal match.

Game time at West Point is set for 7:00.
