Poor shooting leads to Lehigh loss at Marist

Poughkeepsie, NY – Junior co-captain Jessica DePalo scored 19 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, but her second double-double in as many games wasn’t enough as Marist defeated Lehigh by a score of 66-53 at the After building an early 2-0 lead, Lehigh fell behind and could never recover. Despite 12 first half points from DePalo and 43% field goal shooting as a team, Lehigh trailed by a 35-29 score at the break. In the second half, it was all Red Foxes. Lehigh shot just 30% from the floor in the second stanza as Marist pulled away. Marist was led by 18 points and 13 rebounds from Maureen Magarity in the win. Kristin Keller added 13 points and 8 boards for the Red Foxes. For the night, Lehigh shot 36% from the floor. The Mountain Hawks were even colder from long range, connecting on just 3-of-17 attempts from beyond the arc. There were some bright spots f or Lehigh, however. DePalo’s 19 points were a new career high. Sophomore center Lauren Reini added four points and ten rebounds. Her ten boards were also a personal best. Jenny Callan added 8 points and 8 rebounds. Her eight boards were also a career high. Junior point guard Chantal St. Laurent dished out five assists off the bench. The Mountain Hawks return to action on Friday night in search of their first win, as Lehigh heads to Boulder, Colorado to take part in the Coors Classic. Lehigh will take on Cal in the opening round, with tip-off scheduled for 8:00 Eastern time. Radio and Internet audio coverage gets underway at 7:45.
