Mountain Hawks welcome Pitt to Grace Hall

Bethlehem, PA – Leeman-Turner Arena opened last Friday to great aplomb, earning high marks from fans and wrestlers alike.  The loud atmosphere and great fan support were evident from the start, and most agreed the reopening was a great success – except for the results on the mat, as the Mountain Hawks lost to visiting Iowa State in a thriller, 23-18.  Wednesday night, the team will attempt to gain their first win in their newly-refurbished home as they welcome the Pittsburgh Panthers into town.

The Panthers will be competing in their first dual of the season after finishing 19th last year at the NCAA’s. They will be looking to avenge a 23-15 home loss to the Mountain Hawks this past January, part of a streak of thirteen straight dual wins for Lehigh last season. The Panthers return five starters from last year’s team, but lost NCAA runner-up Carl Fronhofer, now an assistant coach on the team.

Lehigh looks to improve upon its opening night performance against the sixth-ranked Cyclones, a match in which they trailed 14-3 at one point before coming back to lead 18-17 going into the final match. The Mountain Hawks are 7-1 in their last eight meetings with Pitt, and lead the overall series 32-14-1.  The meet is scheduled to begin at 7:00, and can be viewed live in the Lehigh Valley on Service Electric TV-2 or heard on WEEX 1230/1160 AM and on Lehigh’s website at www.lehighsports.com. Fox Sports Net Pittsburgh (DirecTV Channel 628) will re-air the match on Sunday at 1:00.
