Bethlehem, PA- The Mountain Hawks used steady play from all of its hitters Friday night to beat Providence 3-1 for their first home win of the season. Four different hitters reached double digits in kills, as Lehigh (6-6) emerged victorious in its first round match-up in the 6th Annual Lehigh Mountain Hawk Classic.

Sophomores Morgan Volkart and Rebecca Gawronski each had 13 kills, while freshman Michelle Schwendenmann and senior Katie Dukatz chipped in with 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Helping them out as always was Patriot League assist leader Allison Jack, who finished the night with 39 assists.

Coach Patrick Nicholas tied former coach Karen Adams for first place on the all-time charts at Lehigh with the win. “It was a tough win,” said Nicholas. “Providence, despite their record (0-12) is a good team, and they gave us a fight.”

Nicholas credited the team chemistry for helping the team win. “We looked like we really started to gel out there tonight, and its great to do that and perform well at home.”

Lehigh will play two matches on Saturday, taking on Quinnipiac at 1:30 and Niagara at 7:30. Those two teams met in the earlier match Friday night, with Niagara (1-10) winning its first match of the season 3-2. Quinnipiac fell to 2-9.
