10/14/2003 12:00:00 AM | Volleyball

Hackensack, NJ – Lehigh picked up its third win in its last four matches as the Mountain Hawks rolled past Fairleigh Dickinson by a 3-0 score at the Rothman Center on Wednesday night.  The win improves the Mountain Hawks’ record to 5-6 on the season, while the loss drops the Knights to 0-12 in 2003.

Despite the three-game sweep, the scores were much closer than they might appear to have been.  Lehigh won the first game by a 32-30 score, and picked up a 30-28 win in game two.  The Mountain Hawks had a little bit more breathing room in the third game, winning by a score of 30-26.

On the night Lehigh was led by the play of freshman Michelle Schwendenmann.  Schwendenmann recorded 12 kills and 10 digs in the win, notching 13 points.  Lehigh’s leading point producer on the night was Rebecca Gawronski.  She scored 14.5 points, and posted a team-high 13 kills.  Freshman Allison Jack also performed well for Lehigh, as she recorded 41 assists en route to the victory.  Defensively, junior Jill Racketa led Lehigh with 19 digs on the night.

Lehigh will return to action on Friday night, as the Mountain Hawks make their first appearance of the season in Bethlehem.  Lehigh will play host to the sixth annual Mountain Hawk Classic inside Taylor Gym.  Action gets underway at 5:00, and the Mountain Hawks will first take the court at 7:30, when Lehigh hosts Providence.  That match can be heard live on the Lehigh web site at www.lehigh.edu.
