The 2026-27 season will mark Sarah Assante’s second year on staff with the Mountain Hawks after joining the program in July 2025. She brings nearly a decade of coaching experience, including Division I stops at Bryant University and Dartmouth College, to Lehigh’s staff.
Assante helped guide a successful 2025-26 season in which the Mountain Hawks finished 17-15 overall and 11-7 in Patriot League play, earning a berth in the WNIT for the second time in program history. Under Assante’s guidance, senior Lily Fandre earned All-Patriot League First Team honors, junior Whitney Lind was named to the All-Patriot League Third Team, and first-year Leia Edwards was selected to the All-Rookie Team.
"We are excited to welcome Sarah to our staff,” Micir said. “She brings to Lehigh an exceptional basketball IQ, a passion for leadership and player development, and an educator’s mindset that aligns perfectly with the values of our University, Athletics Department, and women’s basketball program. Sarah embodies our 'WE' mentality, and we’re thrilled to have her as part of our team."
Assante spent the last two seasons at Bryant, working with the Bulldogs’ post players. Under her guidance, Bryant had a first team All-America East player and All-Rookie team member in her first season, while in 2024-25, Assante helped Nia Scott earn America East All-Defensive honors while leading the conference in rebounding and ranking second in field goal percentage. In two seasons, Assante helped the Bulldogs improve from 9-21 to 16-13 and a WNIT berth.
Prior to her stint at Bryant, Assante spent two seasons at Dartmouth where she coordinated player development for the guards and oversaw analytics, academics and budget.
Before her time at Dartmouth, Assante was an assistant coach at Washington and Lee University where she was the recruiting coordinator and player development director. Assante’s coaching career began at Southern Maine Community College as an assistant coach in 2016-17.
Assante played collegiately at Saint Joseph’s College of Maine, where she was a two-year team captain and received the Neile Nelson Leadership Award. She received her bachelor’s in business administration: accounting in 2015 and added a master’s in organizational and professional communication from Regis College in 2019. In two years at Regis, Assante served as an assistant basketball coach and an assistant strength and conditioning coach.
