Lehigh Defeated On The Road By Navy In Four Sets

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Lehigh continued its three-match road swing on Friday night from Wesley A. Brown Field House against the Navy Midshipmen. The Mountain Hawks fell in four sets on the road to the Mids.
Lehigh (9-6, 2-3 PL) kicked off the night strong, opening the first set with a 14-8 lead. Navy (1-13, 1-4 PL) wouldn't be deterred, crawling back into the set to cut the Mountain Hawk lead to one. Despite Navy's efforts, an Alysia Fingall kill sealed a 25-22 first set win for Lehigh.
The Midshipmen came out of the gates on fire to begin the second, opening a 14-2 lead to start the frame. Lehigh would at one point cut the lead to five, but Navy's hot start allowed them to tie the match with a 25-16 win in set two.
Sets three and four proved to be much more heavily contested, with both being decided by a mere two points. The third set saw Lehigh and Navy both unable to truly separate from one another, as neither led by more than four points. The Mountain Hawks led 23-21 in the closing moments, but a 4-0 Navy run helped them claim the set. Lehigh fought tooth and nail in the fourth, taking the match all the way to extra points. However, the Midshipmen sealed the deal 31-29 to earn their first win of the season.
Junior Natalie Luscomb tallied a team-high 15 kills on the night on a .314 percentage to go along with three block assists and two digs. Senior Makena Smith led the team in assists with 19 while senior Kyleigh Brown's 18 digs were a team-high.
Lehigh will conclude their road trip on Saturday at 4 p.m. against Loyola (Md.) in Baltimore.
