Foley becomes sixth four-time All-Patriot League selection in program history

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Four members of the Lehigh swimming and diving team (two women, two men) were named All-Patriot League selections for the 2021-22 season, announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon. For the women, fifth-year senior Ann Foley and first year Natalie Martin were honored with first and second team recognition, respectively. On the men's side both seniors Owen Thomas and Glenn Lasco were tabbed to the second team.

The all-league teams are determined by individual event results and point totals during the league championship.  Both the first and second teams consist of 18 members, with more added if there are any ties.  All individual event champions automatically earn first-team recognition, with the remaining first-team positions filled based upon point total.  All individual event second-place swimmers and divers not already appearing on the first team are then placed onto the second team.  The second team also is rounded out by the next highest point tallies.

Foley closed the book on her storied Lehigh career with a Patriot League Championship in the 100-yard freestyle, her second career individual title and the third total. Her time of 49.05 in the final was not only an NCAA B-Cut time and broke the Lehigh school record time, but was also the fastest in Patriot League history, as well as the Patriot League Championship meet. In addition to her first-place finish in the event, Foley also scored a bronze, third-place result in the 50-yard freestyle. The medals are Foley's 15th and 16th of her career, winning four in 2018, six in 2019, four in 2020 and two this year, finishing as one of the program's most decorated student-athletes on both the men's and the women's side.

For Foley, she finishes her career as a four-time All-Patriot League selection, just the sixth woman in program history to accomplish that, three of which have been as a first-team honoree. Of the six women, Foley is just the third to have at least three First Team honors, joining Lauren Ayers '02 and Linda Hendrixson '06. With 51 total points for the meet, Foley finished fifth of all Patriot League women's swimmers in that category.

Martin was ultra-impressive in her first Patriot League Championship meet, earning a fifth-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (4:55.68), sixth in the 1,650-yard freestyle and 10th in the 200-yard butterfly. She totaled 34 individual points and was tied for 27th among Patriot League swimmers with Navy's Frace Hastings and Army West Point's Minh Donnell.

On the men's side, Thomas did not disappoint in his final go-around as a senior at the Patriot League Championships, swimming fast times and earning his first career individual medal in the 100-yard backstroke with silver-medal time of 48.53 (which set the new Lehigh school record), finishing just behind Navy's Caleb Mauldin for the Patriot League title. He (along with Connor Sept, Miles Cox and Lasco) scored a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay on opening night with a new school record time of 1:29.69. Thomas also finished 14th in the 200-yard IM and seventh in the 200-yard backstroke (1:50.12).

Lasco also concluded his four-year Lehigh career with his second career Second-Team All-Patriot League selection (along with 2020) and had a great week for the Mountain Hawks. Lasco was the anchor in the school-record 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:29.69 in the first men's event of the meet. He finished seventh in the 50-yard freestyle, Lasco's first individual event of the meet, as well as 10th in the 200-yard freestyle. With Joe Huber, Alex Patti and Aiden McCurley, Lasco led off the 200-yard freestyle relay and placed fifth at 1:22.12. He also came in fifth in the 100-yard freestyle (44.50) and sixth as the anchor in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

The women finished the 2022 Patriot League Championships with a fifth-place finish at 258 points, while the men fought hard at the end of the meet to finish sixth (201 points).
