BETHLEHEM, Pa- The Lehigh men's swimming and diving team is full of a lot of new faces this year, but the Mountain Hawks are excited to kick off the 2022-2023 season against the Loyola Greyhounds on Oct. 8 at Jacobs Pool. This will be Lehigh's first and only home swim meet of the year.

Lehigh will travel for the last eight swim meets of the year.

Highlighted by five seniors, seven juniors, seven sophomores and six first years, the Mountain Hawks might be young, but they bring a ton of talent.

Head Coach Rob Herb is excited about the fresh start and fresh leadership.

"The junior class leadership of Miles Cox, Connor Drucis and Keagan Casey really have the ear of the team and are really trying to progress to the top end of the league," Herb said. "There is a lot of hard work that people are putting in and a lot of extra dedication."

Cox was on the 200-yard medley team, which broke the school record on the first day of the Patriot League Championships in March, and he will look to have another strong year.

Junior James Zhang and sophomore Jack Devilbiss are two walk-ons that Herb said will make a big impact.

Zhang is a transfer from Niagara, and Devilbiss was a student but didn't join the team until this season.

"Jack is probably the fastest swimmer on the team right now. He will challenge for titles in those areas," Herb said. "James is a very diverse swimmer who can pretty much go everywhere. Where he's going to land, we are not sure yet."

Herb said one of the strongest things about this team is that while the COVID-19 pandemic made it really hard to all be on the same page with people being out, they've been back a year and have the right crew that is focused not only on the individual success but the team success as a whole.

With this being Lehigh's only home meet, it will also be Senior Day for Caleb Eberly, Nick Lynam, Jake Stafford, Andrew Sukach and Janik Wing.

The Mountain Hawks have a challenging schedule ahead of them, but they will rely on their leadership to bring them success.

Lehigh will put that to the test right away when they start off with a strong opponent in Loyola. The Greyhounds finished in fourth place last season at the Patriot League Championship, while Lehigh finished in sixth place.

Herb said Loyola is a very strong team, and it will be a test for them, but that there will be a lot of individual races that go well for them.
