The team loses 7-2 after leading in 2nd period
The Mountain Hawks battled hard for 2 periods, but succumbed to the Towson power play in the third to lose 7-2.
The first period ended at 0-0 as goalie Sean McGowan stopped every shot. Lehigh had a few scoring opportunities but were denied by the Towson goalie.
The second period was the same as the first as each team had opportunities but were stopped by the opposing goalie. About halfway through the period, Keith Calvaruso received an outlet pass from Andres Binotto in the neutral zone. Calvaruso skated around the Towson defender and beat the goalie to give Lehigh the lead at 1-0. Will Kazel contributed the 2nd assist. On the next shift, Cody Triolo sent Jake Kurz on a breakaway and Kurz beat the Towson net minder to extend the lead to 2-0.
The Mountain Hawks were fired up but became too aggressive in the offensive zone and Towson capitalized by getting a breakaway and scoring 23 seconds later to make the score 2-1. With less than a minute to go in the second period, Towson tied up the score and the third period would start with the teams tied at 2-2.
Towson started the third period with 2 quick goals and then converted two power plays before adding a late goal to win the game 7-2. Lehigh had no answer in the third period to the Towson offense.
The Mountain Hawks ended their 2017 season 4-11-1 after playing with a short roster. The team is hopeful to get back some injured players and have a successful spring semester.
